Your New Year's Resolution Guide [Pt.2]

Okay so it's almost February. How have your resolutions been going so far??

Well, wherever you are in your health and wellness journey, I have 2 more tips for you!

[Part 2]

In my last post, I told you that there are 5 tips that I've been using to succeed in my resolutions. Here's the final 3 tips!

Use the 5 second rule, and think long term and forgive yourself.

Now i know that these may sound counter intuitive, but both of these will help you jump start yourself on those really hard days that start to creep in 3 weeks after starting.

No. 3: Use the 5 Second Rule

I actually got this tip from one of my co-workers, when we were talking about how hard it is to just start sometimes. She told me to look up Mel Robbins. This woman is incredible. Shes really focused on self improvement tactics. But what really stuck out to me was her 5 second rule.

- "The 5 Second Rule is simple. If you have an instinct to act on a

goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it"

This really blew my mind when I thought back to all of the times I talked myself out of a good idea. A good example is working out. How many times have you thought about working out long enough to excuse yourself out of it, or woken up early in the morning and laid in bed for a little too long instead of getting right up and going to the gym? I know for a fact I did it several times a week.

What I've started doing is (if the opportunity presents itself), I'll go workout out, or cook instead of ordering food AS SOON as the idea pops into my head. On days that I work from home, I'm multitasking my work and my in-house workouts at the same time. Or if I'm in the office, I'll literally go take a quick walk around the office just to get moving. If I'm laying in bed and suddenly realize that I'm hungry, instead of ordering UberEats, I'll get up and walk to the fridge to see what I can make.

Give it a try, and watch your goal productivity skyrocket!

No. 4: Forgive Yourself

This one is difficult for A LOT of us. I'm actually going to blame social media for this one. EVERYONE looks like they have it figured out online, and like it didn't take a lot to get there. Its not true and don't believe it for a second. Put your blinders on, and focus on your journey. You're not going to get things perfect when you're making lifestyle changes. Some days its going to feel amazing and motivation... but other days its going to suck and feel impossible.

I promise even the people who look like they are HEALTH GOALS do not always get it right; myself included. Cut yourself some slack, and don't discourage yourself if you fall off for a little bit, or aren't seeing immediate progress. Reassess, and keep going.

No. 5: Think Long Term

I personally don't think resolutions and goal setting should stop when you actually hit your goal. I think the most important thing about creating a healthier lifestyle is maintenance. You should not only aspire to get healthy, but to stay healthy. As you're working your way through your resolutions, start to build a sustainable plan to keep these habits and lifestyle changes up.

The best feeling is when you look back on your year, and you don't have to make yourself the same promise all over again, because you know you already got this!
